Benefits of Floating
Welcome to a whole different world of relief.
Welcome to a whole different world of relief.
Nagging back pain, meet our friend—zero-gravity. Take the pressure off those sore joints and tight little areas that have been bothering you for years.
When was the last time you actually just let go? With all our technology and social media, we can easily forget to take a few moments for ourselves.
Whether you’re looking for help with some healthy weight loss, muscle gain or recovering from injury and training—floating is the ideal environment for you.
Meditate like you’ve been doing it for twenty-years and let those theta waves flow! It’s great for the up and coming yogis or a seasoned veteran.
Get rid of all that busy neural chatter and stimulus so you can reflect a little—focus on that new project, next game or simply how awesome you are.
Insomnia? Too much on your busy mind? With the natural dopamine & endorphins that releases from a quality float, babies don’t sleep this good.
pain-relief, injury recovery, athletic training
Relaxation Response
We’ve all experienced the “fight or flight” response before. Now just imagine the complete opposite of this and you can start to understand what the body goes through during a float, and a state of meditation.
Being in such a relaxed space while floating allows our sympathetic nervous system to be inhibited while the brain and body can begin to focus on healing and recovery—versus protection and safety.
Pain-Relief & Management
Between studies, testimonials and plenty of personal experience; floating has been shown to help immensely with everything from back and shoulder pain to all levels of inflammation and—chronic & acute—injuries.
Recovery & Rejuvenation
On top of removing loads of gravity from muscles, ligaments and tendons—floating improves blood flow and starts to promote increased circulation to the extremities.
Many of us can also suffer from overuse issues, both physical and CNS, and time in the tank can begin to help reduce much of the associated adrenal strain.
Immune System Function
It’s challenging to keep a strong & healthy immune system when tons of cortisol and other stress-related hormones are flowing through our bodies when we feel stressed, overworked or training too much.
Float tanks are excellent at helping flush these out in order to help with proper recovery, digestion and insulin sensitivity.
Stress Resistance
Other than reasons explained in the above section on Immune System Function, we also like to use the, simple yet effective, example of driving in rush hour traffic.
If you tend to get a little frustrated when someone cuts you off in the middle of rush hour traffic; after a float you’re more likely to wave at the person than scream in a vicious rage while trying to remove your steering wheel from the dash.
Magnesium Absorption
Most people have heard of the benefits of Epsom Salt and that has a large part to do with the fact that magnesium deficiencies are very common in today’s society.
Magnesium can be absorbed through the skin while floating in an extremely high concentration and can help influence all kinds of things including; blood pressure, bones & teeth, PMS symptoms and a large list of other benefits.
It’s also interesting to note that the symbol for Magnesium is Mg, which oddly enough are the initials of Modern Gravity.
Coincidence? Unfortunately yes, although that would be a super cool anecdote.
Kinaesthetic Awareness
Kinaesthetic awareness is the body’s ability to know where it is in space. Think about pointing at something specific behind you, without actually looking at it.
After spending an hour or so in a float tank you’ll start to find you have a much better understanding of your body, it’s muscles and how it helps you move.
It’s not uncommon to find areas that need stretching or even muscular imbalances you never knew might be an issue.
stress-management, creativity, performance
Meditation & Visualization
The list of benefits that come from a strong meditation practice has been very well documented throughout history and continues to be researched and studied.
Floating gives us a unique opportunity to experience a deep, meditative state—with little to no effort on our behalf—as it can generally take years to get a strong grasp.
In this state, we also find ourselves in the perfect space to visualize a performance, big public speaking engagement or even a new book idea or concept.
Cultivating theta waves from meditation (in or out of the tank) can influence increased awareness, creativity and well-being.
Super-Learning & Brain Synchronization
The float tank allows us to increase the communication between the creative and logical portions of our brain, which tends to be quite lopsided in our society. This can cause instances of creativity, sense of connection and stronger self-awareness.
Coupled with this benefit of floating, brain synchronization has also been associated with super learning—helping with things such as improved memory and recall.
Without distractions and having more resources available, going for a float before crushing some study time or getting ready for a presentation is highly recommended.
Hormone Balance & Endorphins
Between helping us manage cortisol levels from a crazy week and dumping a bunch of endorphins into our blood stream, floating can straight up make us feel real good.
As our natural pain-killer and feel good hormone; endorphin influences a better mood, help us deal with anxiety, feelings of depression and genuinely leave us in a much clearer, calmer headspace.
Just as working-out for years without getting some soft-tissue work done can lead to lower performance or injury—ignoring your hormonal health can lead down a very similar path.
Behaviour Modification
Most people can’t consciously choose to hit their thumb with a hammer.
Float tanks can be a very effective means to develop self-awareness around certain patterns of behaviour and help understand them in more detail.
Overeating, smoking and other addictive behaviours have been shown to garner great results from some regular floatation sessions and corresponding therapy.
Introspection & PTSD
Traumatic events, whether it be war or sexual assault, can be very challenging to overcome and can continually trigger different feelings, emotions and anxieties.
The reason floating can be helpful in this area is due to the combination of the body’s ability to release large amounts of endorphin and dopamine—while keeping cortisol to a minimum—and continually promoting a safe, isolated environment to process these experiences and aid in removing their painful associations.
It can be challenging enough to hear your own thoughts during a hectic day, let alone being expected to deal with painful experiences at the same time.
The introspective environment of a float tank offers an amazing tool to address and monitor certain thoughts, habits and feelings—it can be used for the mind, the same way a gym is used for the body.
Psychoneuroimmunology (aka PNI)
This is the study of the interaction between psychological processes and the nervous and immune systems of the human body.
Essentially it evaluates the relationships between mental processes and health.
Inside the float tank is a great environment to use our excess resources, normally being used for standard processing, and focus them towards a diseased or injured area.
Insomnia & Sleep Quality
Reasons associated with sleeping problems and insomnia can make quite the large list.
Between managing stress, reducing aches & pains and cultivating a healthier physical and mental body; floating can help enhance the quantity & quality of sleep.
Without good, regular sleep. We can’t completely rest, recover and grow.
We have pulled quite the number of all-nighters in the past and can definitely attest to its awesomeness. At times it feels like we’re pulling a fast one on mother nature…
